(NewsNation) — Californians are bracing for the effects of Hurricane Polo, which could bring coastal erosion, dangerous surf and life-threatening conditions along the coast.
In Dana Point, coastal erosion has heightened concerns that more homes could be lost to the ocean. Homeowners have begun building a temporary rock barrier using their own funds in an effort to protect their properties.
Resident Natalie Driessen joined “Katie Pavlich Tonight” to discuss how high surf and powerful coastal currents are accelerating beach erosion and threatening oceanfront homes. Driessen said she and a neighbor alerted local officials to the issue in October 2025, but conditions worsened significantly over the summer.
Pacific Hurricanes Nolo and Polo continue to strengthen
“Labor Day, all of a sudden, about 20 houses were hit,” Driessen said. “We’ve lost three completely into the ocean. There’s another 10 that are red-tagged and seven that are yellow-tagged.”…
