A mariner was airlifted to safety after a sailboat ran aground on Santa Rosa Island off the Southern California coast, officials said.
The U.S. Coast Guard said watchstanders received a report around 12:18 p.m. Thursday of a 25-foot sailing vessel that had run aground on the island, which is part of Channel Islands National Park off the coast of Santa Barbara County.
The report came in over VHF-FM Channel 16, prompting Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach to dispatch an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Ventura.
