SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Sunday and Monday are looking fantastic across the Suncoast. Expect mostly sunny skies with pleasant conditions perfect for just about any outdoor activity. The winds will be light, starting out from the northeast on Sunday morning before shifting to the northwest in the afternoon. Monday follows a similar pattern with mostly sunny skies and light winds that will turn from east to southwest as the day goes on.
By Wednesday, the moisture returns to more typical levels, and shower and storm activity increases. We’ll see showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, particularly after 2 p.m. This pattern continues through the rest of the week with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms becoming more widespread, especially in the afternoons and evenings.
TROPICAL OUTLOOK – NEXT 7 DAYS
The remnants of Tropical Storm Fay continue to weaken in the Atlantic, far away from the Suncoast. This system is moving slowly toward the south at just 2 mph, with a turn to the southwest expected early next week. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph, and little change in strength is forecast over the next several days. This system poses no threat to our area.
Elsewhere, a surface trough of low pressure located several hundred miles southeast of Bermuda is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions could become favorable for gradual development as this system moves northward this weekend and then turns eastward by early to mid-next week. However, the formation chance remains low at just 10 percent through 48 hours and 20 percent through 7 days. We’ll continue to monitor this system, but it’s not expected to impact the Suncoast.
