LAS VEGAS, NV — A person reported missing from the Las Vegas area was found dead last month in a remote stretch near Alamo, and investigators later ruled the death accidental. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the Clark County Office of the Coroner determined extreme heat exposure caused the death.
Deputies said the person was discovered after a traveler in the area came across an abandoned vehicle that appeared to be stuck. After finding no one with the vehicle, the person kept going and later found a deceased person off the roadway, then called authorities. The sheriff’s office said the case is now closed.
Traveler’s discovery led deputies to a remote desert scene
The sheriff’s office said it first received reports on Aug. 21 about a deceased person located roughly 25 miles south of the Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge headquarters. The area is remote, and the discovery came during travel through the desert rather than a planned search operation.
According to deputies, the person who found the body had initially stopped after seeing what looked like a stuck and abandoned vehicle.
