HOT SPRINGS, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – State, county, and town officials joined with leaders of Advanced BioGas Systems (ABS) on Thursday for the opening of the Hot Springs ABS Facility two years after Hurricane Helene.
Officials said that discussions about setting up a facility in Madison County began before Helene destroyed the Buncombe County facility. ABS is known for manufacturing equipment that extracts methane gas from solid waste landfill sites.
In June 2025, the Madison County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to adopt an economic development resolution and submitted a revitalization facility grant application to the North Carolina Department of Commerce. To qualify, ABS committed to creating 20 new full-time positions and investing $2 million in an existing facility in Madison County.
