KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is welcoming a former Knox County assistant district attorney as special counsel to the sheriff in addition to being a new deputy law director.
On Tuesday, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office announced that it was welcoming Attorney Oscar A. Butler as special counsel to Sheriff Brent Gibson, a role which he will be assigned in his new position as Deputy Law Director for Knox County under law Director David Buuck.

According to the sheriff’s office, Butler graduated from Lincoln Memorial University’s Duncan School of Law in 2019 before beginning his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Knox County District Attorney’s Office. In that role, Butler prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases.
Butler then transitioned to private practice in 2023, starting at a criminal defense firm before opening his own firm earlier this year.
