Bees were buzzing inside the grocery store, right behind a pane of glass, and that was only the first surprise. What looked like a plain roadside market on a country road in Pennsylvania turned out to be packed with warm cider, sugary donuts, and more apple kinds than most people could name.
One cup of that cider was enough to make me start planning the next trip before I even reached the car.
A Roadside Market on Old Philadelphia Pike
Drive east along Old Philadelphia Pike through Lancaster County and you will eventually spot Kauffman Orchards at 3097, right in the village of Bird-in-Hand. From the road, it looks like a simple farm market.
Step inside, though, and the place opens up into something much bigger…
