SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The Ocean Terminal project is set to grow the Georgia Ports Authority’s annual container capacity from 200,000 20-foot equivalent container units (TEUs) to 1.75 million passing through Savannah.
Georgia Ports Authority Board Chairman Alec Poitevint said there are a lot of moving parts at the ports, but they are moving in the right direction and at a quick pace.
The authority will work with smaller vessels until mid-fall next year, when the first phase of the container yard renovation is done. Plans call for opening the terminal to larger ships by the end of 2028. The wharves are completed, gates are opened up and Georgia Ports Authority CEO Griff Lynch said it is really coming together…
