A covered patio was attached to the back of a Fresno house, and a second patio had been walled in and used as a room. The city’s Notice and Order of January 2, 2026, in code enforcement case E25-16660, listed both as added without the required plans, permits and inspections. For each, the case file gave two ways out: remove it, or submit plans and get permits.
The owner appealed, saying permits were not required when the patios were built and they should be grandfathered. On May 19, 2026, the city’s Building Standards Appeals Board confirmed the notice and ordered both corrected within thirty days.
