Lucky’s Steakhouse Downtown Pairs Exceptional Steaks With an Eclectic Soundtrack

Part of the charm of Downtown’s Arts District is discovering an abandoned electrical box with a tiny performance venue hidden inside or the old firehouse that’s become a luxury hotel. Rarely does the outside give you a clue as to what’s on the inside. Walking into the latest outpost of Lucky’s Steakhouse on Mateo Street, the golden sunset poured through the skylights of the century-old former produce warehouse that’s been transformed into a white tablecloth moderne dining room.

Gene Montesano, co-founder of Lucky Brand Jeans, opened his first Lucky’s in Montecito a quarter-century ago. The posh dining room became a celebrity favorite and expanded to locations in Malibu, New York City’s SoHo and the Hamptons. A Beverly Hills outlet is coming soon.

The comfort menu features chicken parm and pot pie as specials and iconic beef cuts from porterhouse to Delmonico. The USDA Prime is perfectly seared and offered with classic sauces like béarnaise, hollandaise and their own take on bordelaise. Side dishes are bolder flavors than what you might see at Musso & Frank, with the creamed corn a standout, tasting of fresh and succulent summer…
