Pierce County Funds 220 Affordable Homes

Pierce County is investing $11.4 million in five affordable-housing projects that will add or preserve 220 homes for low-income families, seniors, people with disabilities, and other residents across the region.

The funding comes through the Maureen Howard Affordable Housing Act, supported by 1/10 of a 1% local sales tax. Since the county began collecting the tax in mid-2023, the program has supported 1,545 affordable homes.

The newest projects include housing in Tacoma’s Lincoln District, the city’s Eastside, and the Proctor neighborhood, along with family-size homes in DuPont near Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The funding also supports two group homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities…
