UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics reports hand, foot, and mouth, viral rashes, the common cold and a virus causing wheezing.
WellSpan Pediatric Medicine Physicians are seeing asthma issues and viral upper respiratory illnesses.
“As children return to school and colder weather arrives, asthma symptoms may become more common,” said Dr. Christopher Russo, medical director of pediatrics at WellSpan Health. “Parents should keep rescue inhalers nearby and make sure their child’s asthma action plan is up to date and on file at school. Watch for triggers and early warning signs, including trouble breathing, shortness of breath or more frequent coughing. We are also seeing an increase in common viral respiratory illnesses. Symptoms can include cough, fever and congestion. Most children will recover with rest, fluids and supportive care at home. Contact a health care provider if symptoms worsen or do not improve.”…
