Post Cure: Aramid Fiber Technology Creates Golf Shafts With High Power, Absolute Control

Kevlar EXO, a next‑generation aramid fiber developed through DuPont Kevlar (Richmond, Pa., U.S.) and owned by Arclin (Alpharetta, Ga., U.S.), is bringing high performance to carbon fiber golf shafts through a collaboration with Kinetixx (San Clement, Calif., U.S.), whose ultra-premium golf shafts have previously used Kevlar and carbon fiber. Kevlar EXO’s combination of high strength, increased elongation and controlled flexibility allows shafts to better absorb, control and return energy during the swing, improving stability, feel and durability versus traditional carbon fiber‑only designs.

A filament-wrapped, vacuum-cured Kevlar EXO exoskeleton layer married with Kinetixx’s high modulus carbon fiber golf shaft has enabled two unique designs, the FlexurX (with a unidirectional exoskeleton) and SyrgeX (a twisted fiber exoskeleton), both of which resist “ovaling” to maintain concentricity, preserve ball speed and face control even on off-center strikes — in other words, power with guardrails…
