State revives plan for new railroad bridge over Maynard Road near downtown Cary

The N.C. Department of Transportation wants to eliminate the busy railroad crossing at N.E. Maynard Road near East Chatham Street, reviving a delayed plan that would displace a dozen businesses and result in long detours during construction.

NCDOT wants to lower Maynard Road and build a bridge for the railroad tracks to pass over it. The plan calls for shifting Chatham Street south, away from the tracks, to create a new intersection.

NCDOT will present its plans, answer questions and take feedback at a public meeting Tuesday, Oct. 6, at First Cary United Methodist Church on South Academy Street. People can stop by any time between 4 and 7 p.m…
