A new California law authored by Assemblymember Laurie Davies will establish a statewide e-bike safety and training program for students, an effort Davies says grew out of several years of legislation addressing the rapid rise of e-bikes among young riders.
Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1569 into law in August. The measure requires the California Department of Education and California Highway Patrol to work together to develop an e-bike safety and training program for students in grades 7 through 12. The program will focus on proper e-bike operation and rules of the road.
Davies, whose 74th Assembly District includes San Clemente, Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano, said the goal is to create a consistent educational resource that schools throughout California can use while local governments retain their own e-bike regulations…
