Treating an AI chatbot like a digital diary usually ends with recipe ideas or slightly weird poems, but for one Florida resident, it ended with handcuffs.
Carli Michelle Heller, 30, of Bonita Springs, is facing a second-degree felony charge after local deputies discovered she was allegedly using Anthropic’s Claude AI not to draft cover letters or edit essays, but to threaten the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, Heller’s chat log took an abrupt, dark turn on Sept. 26 when her account typed out plans to “shoot up” the sheriff’s headquarters. Apparently unsatisfied with leaving the bot on read overnight, another message popped up early the next morning boasting about a newly acquired firearm and declaring the warning a “last chance.”…
