Baltimore photographer Devin Allen honors mother and grandmother in solo exhibit ‘She Saw Me Coming’

Baltimore born photographer and activist Devin Allen has unveiled a solo exhibit, “She Saw Me Coming,” showing at Charm City Cultural Cultivation through Dec. 4.

The photo-based exhibit features images of Allen’s family through the lens of the women who raised him, including his grandmother, Doris Dorothy Marie Green and mother, Gail Allen.

“As I was talking to my peers while preparing for the show, a lot of them said that they don’t have pictures, they just have memories,” said Allen. “With this exhibit, I can go and revisit moments before I was born up until me being here. There’s baby pictures of me with my family, my cousins, images from the early ‘70s and the times of my mother and grandmother growing up.”

The idea was born out of tragedy. A fall led to his grandmother spending time in the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic…
