JD Vance Criticized for Not Helping Wife After Scary Helicopter Slip with Newborn

Vice President J.D. Vance has faced criticism after a recent incident involving his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, who nearly lost her footing while disembarking from Marine 2 in Alaska. The moment, captured as part of the couple’s nationwide tour to rally Republican support ahead of the midterm elections, showed Usha carefully navigating the helicopter steps while carrying their nine-week-old baby, Alec, along with a sizable leather diaper bag.

As Usha descended the steps, holding onto the handrail with one hand and securely carrying Alec strapped to her chest, she stumbled but quickly regained her balance. She then turned back toward the helicopter, seemingly to assure her husband that she was all right. However, some observers expressed frustration that Vice President Vance did not assist her during the precarious moment.

Comments on social media criticized Vance for not exiting the aircraft first to help protect his wife and their child. Some noted that their older daughter wore headphones to shield her ears from the noise, questioning why the newborn did not have similar protection. Others suggested that Vance could have offered to carry the diaper bag to ease the burden on Usha.

Despite the near fall, Usha Vance remained composed and even lighthearted. She was overheard telling nearby officers, “I nearly fell down stairs.

I’m okay, and he’s fine… thank you,” though the officers did not intervene at the moment. Soon after, J.D.

Vance appeared carrying their daughter Mirabel Rose and saluted the officers before the family continued on their way.

During the visit, Vice President Vance expressed enthusiasm about campaigning for Senator Dan Sullivan in Alaska, describing Sullivan as “a really great guy, a Marine Corps veteran, and just somebody you really need to keep in the United States Senate.” He acknowledged the challenge of traveling with a newborn, noting that this trip marked Usha’s 50th state visited. “So if I give a speech tonight and I look haggard and stressed out, that’s exactly why,” he remarked.

The incident underscores the challenges faced by political families on the campaign trail, balancing public duties with the demands of parenting.
