LIVINGSTON COUNTY, N.Y. — A man pleaded guilty this month to killing his father in 2024. We first heard about the case after deputies told us he brought the body to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
What happened in 2024
Livingston County Sheriff Dougherty said Richard Fluegel Jr. drove to the sheriff’s office on the night of Dec. 9 to turn in his father’s body and his defense attorney called 911 to let them know. The son and the defense attorney pulled up to the sheriff’s office in separate cars.
His father’s name was Richard Fluegel Sr., and he died from gunshot wounds.
Fluegel Jr., 30, is from Rochester, and officials tell us he was trying to start growing cannabis on Bonner Road, where the killing happened.
Fluegel Sr was missing from his home in Irondequoit since Dec. 8. His family filed a missing persons report and eventually his car was found in Dansville.
Son pleads guilty
Almost two years later, Fluegel Jr. pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, but pleaded not guilty to criminal use of a firearm. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life.
Weeks after the killing, Fluegel Jr. originally pleaded non guilty to all charges, so a grand jury planned to take the case…
