Charlotte could invest $6 million into parking at the Bojangles Coliseum as construction is slated to eliminate thousands of spaces in a nearby lot.
A plan presented to a City Council committee Monday would add 219 parking spaces on a patch of city-owned property off Chipley Avenue, adjacent to the coliseum’s existing parking area. City staff say it would be the first step in mitigating the impact of redevelopment at the Park Expo Center.
The center will remove 2,000 spaces from its lot that is frequently used for coliseum events. That would mark a 55% reduction in parking capacity, said Kathleen Cishek, city engineer with the Charlotte Department of Transportation.
