Lots purchased on Marco to protect wildlife; Friends of Rookery Bay receives four grants

Collier County commissioners have approved the purchase of three properties on Marco Island, using Conservation Collier funds.

All three sites, homes to gopher tortoises and burrowing owls, were agreed upon for $1.768 million. The parcels are at Barfield and Sand Marco (appraised at $560K); Watson and W. Inlet ($475K) and Scott Drive and Indian Hill ($720K).

Friends of Rookery Bay receives four grants

Through the Collier Community Foundation, Friends of Rookery Bay received $5,000 to rebuild its website, $10,000 in operational support for program staff expenses and $50,000 for shark and sea turtle programs from the Cypress Cove Landkeepers fund.

From the Tourist Development Council, Friends of Rookery Bay received $4,500 for out-of-county advertising promoting the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center as well as boat and kayak tours through the mangroves and beaches of the reserve.
