U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently seized 200 counterfeit Cartier watches that would have retailed for a combined $28 million.
Officers assigned to CBP’s Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement Team at Chicago O’Hare International Airport encountered a parcel shipped from Hong Kong and destined for California and pulled it for inspection. They found 200 watches bearing the suspect Cartier trademark.
Trade experts at CBP’s Centers of Excellence and Expertise determined the watches were inauthentic and bore counterfeit Cartier trademarks. They were seized on Sept. 18.
