New safety measures coming to US 49 near Cynthia Road

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced crews will install a Low-Cost Directional Median (LCDM) on U.S. 49 at Cynthia Road in Jackson.

The installation will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on October 13, 2026.

According to MDOT, LCDMs reduce the opportunity for angle crashes at four-lane, divided highway intersections.

Drivers are advised to pay close attention to all traffic control and be alert for roadside workers in the area. The work will impact the median crossover at Northwest Jackson Middle School, just to the south of Cynthia Road, along U.S. 49.

MDOT officials said drivers who previously exited from Cynthia Road to make a left onto U.S. 49 or a through movement to Cynthia Road will now make a right turn and subsequent U-turn at the next available median crossover…
