Online fundraiser aims to help Leeward Drive-Inn reopen after kitchen fire

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A fundraising campaign has been set up to help a popular Waipahu diner reopen after a fire tore through its kitchen.

Firefighters responded to the overnight blaze at Leeward Drive-Inn on Friday, Oct. 2, and found smoke surrounding the building and flames coming through the roof, officials said.

No one was hurt, but the fire heavily damaged the kitchen, according to a GoFundMe for the restaurant.

Leeward Drive-Inn first opened its doors in 1964 and had been serving meals 365 days a year for over 60 years…
