MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — First responders are working to rescue a utility worker who was trapped in dirt 13 feet underground in a collapsed trench in Montgomery County on Tuesday, according to officials.
According to Pete Piringer, a spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, crews were dispatched to a technical rescue on Falls Bridge Lane where a worker was reported to be trapped around 3:20 p.m.
Piringer said a utility worker in a residential neighborhood was working in a trench next to a house when the trench collapsed, trapping the worker.

Piringer said crews are working to shore up the trench area so that they can safely get the worker out. Medics are monitoring his health.
DC News Now was told that he is trapped about 13 feet underground and was stuck in the dirt about waist-deep inside the trench. A vacuum truck will suck the soil from the trench while crews breach the basement wall so they can rescue him through the building…
