AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new approach for the City of Austin and Travis County to stop a cycle of homeless people in crisis appears to be working.
On Tuesday, city staff provided a briefing on “No Wrong Door” to council members. The program launched in April out of the city manager’s office.
No Wrong Door relies on a “coordinated multi-agency approach for crisis response, service engagement, and follow-up care centered on individuals with complex social and behavioral health needs,” staff wrote in an Oct.1 memo to Mayor Kirk Watson and council.

The initiative follows the city’s push to address an estimated 950 “high-risk” people who cost Austin and Travis County about $137 million annually through their use of local criminal justice, homelessness and health care services…
