Indy driver charged with hit-and-run that left 9-year-old boy dead

INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis driver is charged with a hit-and-run crash that left a 9-year-old boy dead and injured another young child.

Roland McLain III, known by his family as RJ, was just hours away from celebrating his 9th birthday party when he was killed Sunday afternoon.

“That took a big piece of us,” said the victim’s grandmother, Laquisha Moore.  “I feel like I’m in a dream. I feel like if I wake up tomorrow he’ll be here.”

Police believe RJ and his 6-year-old younger brother were playing in the grass at an apartment complex on Indy’s northwest side when the driver of a black Ford SUV cut the corner too tight, drove into the grass and ran over both victims…
