Huntsville shelter says dogs not reclaimed by owners contributing to critical capacity

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville Animal Services has reached critical capacity as the shelter continues to take in large numbers of dogs.

Huntsville Animal Services Director John Fisher said the shelter sees its highest intake from spring through the end of summer. He said the numbers usually decline as temperatures cool.

“Through spring through the end of summer is when we would expect to see these high numbers coming into the shelter,” Fisher said. “We call it our peak season. And then as the weather’s starting to cool off, we will start to see a bit of a slowdown. But for now, we are packed to the rafters.”…
