Former Kentucky guard Kerr Kriisa pleads guilty to federal wire fraud

Former Kentucky men’s basketball player has agreed to plead guilty to a federal wire fraud charge. The U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of West Virginia announced the news in a release on Thursday.

Kriisa, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of federal wire fraud on Sept. 28. In the agreement, it states that the Estonian native will serve a sentence of not more than 24 months in prison. He will be sentenced on Dec. 22. Four other counts of wire fraud were dropped as part of the plea deal.

“Financial fraud is not a game, and those who choose to deceive and exploit others will be held accountable,” U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey said. “Mr. Kriisa’s years-long scheme caused real harm, and today’s plea underscores that this office will pursue anyone who engages in conduct like this, regardless of any notoriety or success they may have achieved.”…
