A new nonprofit was designated as the Area Agency on Aging for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties after the state Department of Aging identified a “pattern of noncompliance” with the Central Coast Commission on Senior Citizens’ funding practices earlier this year.
On Jan. 28, the Central Coast Commission on Senior Citizens, which served as the Area Agency on Aging for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties since 1975, vacated its license just days before it was set to appear at a hearing conducted by the state Department of Aging that was prompted by claims of financial mismanagement.
