You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, we’re telling you why: Santa Claus is coming to South Sound! And really, can you blame him? Between the twinkling waterfront, the small-town parades, and the way this corner of the state leans into the season, Pierce County makes a mighty fine stop on any December sleigh ride. Whether you’re after a classic photo op or a full evening of festive fun, here’s where to find Santa in and around Tacoma, Puyallup, Gig Harbor and beyond.
Holidays in the Harbor
Gig Harbor Waterfront
Get ready to deck the docks of the Gig Harbor waterfront as it transforms into a winter wonderland during the Gig Harbor Waterfront Alliance’s annual Holidays in the Harbor celebration. Festivities run all December long, with Santa making several guest appearances at the Skansie Brothers Park Pavilion throughout the month, offering free photo-ops to those who bring their camera. Complimentary cocoa, cider and treats will be available while supplies last, and well-behaved pets are invited to join their families for the occasion.
The celebration extends across the harbor with holiday-themed photo vignettes at scenic waterfront spots and participating local businesses, inviting visitors to take a seasonal stroll and explore the historic district while capturing Christmas-card-worthy images along the way. Adding to the fun is the annual city tree lighting at Skansie Brothers Park on December 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., where live music, complimentary cookies and cocoa, and a special appearance from Santa set the tone for the weeks of celebrating that follow.
