LAKEWOOD, Ohio (WOIO) — A Lakewood city councilman provided an update Thursday on the chemical smell in Lakewood’s Birdtown neighborhood.
Last month, a chemical odor was reported last week by dozens of residents in the Birdtown neighborhood that prompted an investigation by the Cleveland Division of Air Quality (CDAQ).
The latest update from Lakewood City Councilman Matt Bixenstine says that the CDAQ has identified issues at several facilities as the division continues to investigate the reports:
- CDAQ inspectors have identified issues at several facilities and are requesting that facilities submit information like production records and hours of operation.
- The CDAQ has now received more than 100 calls from Lakewood residents. This has been helpful to the investigation, and the CDAQ will attempt to follow up with each complainant as time allows.
- Please continue to report an odor in real time using the CDAQ’s hotline: 216-664-7442.
Here’s information from an update issued by Councilman Bixenstine on Monday:
- The CDAQ received a few new complaints from Lakewood residents over the weekend.
- CDAQ inspectors have been visiting facilities within our area that emit air pollutants and will continue doing so in the days ahead.
- The CDAQ has been retrieving SUMMA air-sampling canisters placed in the field and sending them to a lab for analysis.
- If you have a lead on a potential source, please contact the CDAQ at their hotline: 216-664-7442. You can also report an odor in real time at this same number.
Councilman Bixenstine shared his thanks for the patience and assistance as we work to resolve this issue in our community…
