Denver Mayor Mike Johnston recently discussed a potential partnership with Fort Collins and Grand Junction concerning the migrant crisis. However, Grand Junction’s Mayor Stout clarified that no plans or commitments have been made with Denver. Johnston has since apologized to Stout, citing Grand Junction’s limited capacity and political support for receiving migrants.

Johnston stated that he was not considering Grand Junction as a migrant recipient community. He confirmed that he has no intention of asking Grand Junction to accept any migrants, despite having discussions with other communities, including Fort Collins.

Grand Junction has not discussed becoming a recipient city for migrants with Denver or the state. The city’s involvement in the issue has been limited to receiving briefings about emergency preparedness plans from the county and the health department.

Mayor Stout stressed that the city will maintain contact with the county and the health department about the migrant situation. However, this is the extent of the city’s involvement in the issue.
