Massive atmospheric river targets California, leaves Arizona relatively dry by comparison

According to the Arizona Weatherman, the upper-level Omega block is breaking down by this Saturday. Still, the models now agree that the bulk of rain and snow will impact Central to Northern California and move north of Arizona over the next week. However, Northern Arizona will get some impacts from the rain and snow mix during the week. In contrast, Southern Arizona will not get much rain over the next week.

The upper-level pattern has shifted further northward for the precipitation flow for Arizona over the next week. The precipitation amounts for Arizona will be lower than previously expected from last week. The best chance of precipitation for Northern Arizona will be on Sunday, and there will be a better chance on Wednesday morning to afternoon. Expecting about .25 inch to a half inch of rain or snow mix for the Northwestern section of the state. In comparison, Southern Arizona will receive little to no rain for the next week. This will come as a disappointment to those who wanted more seasonal rain and snow.
