St. Lucie County Offers Free Guided Hikes and Kayak Tours for Local Residents in March

The St. Lucie County Environmental Resources Department is offering free guided hikes in March. These hikes, led by staff and volunteers, cater to different interests and skill levels. Kayak tours are also available for $20 per person.

The series starts on March 1 with the Morning Serenity Hike at Donald B. Moore Heritage Preserve. This hike is for those who prefer a quiet walk through a woodland along the intracoastal waters. On March 2, the Fire in the Ecosystem program will be held at George LeStrange Preserve. This program will discuss the role of fire in Florida’s ecosystems.

On March 2, there is a Kayak Becker Preserve to White City Park Lunch Trip. This 6.5-mile paddle down the river includes a lunch break at White City Park. It is not recommended for beginners. On March 6, the Scrub Ridge Hike at Indrio Scrub Preserve will allow participants to explore a scrub habitat on the coastal ridge.

The series continues on March 8 with a program on Florida’s Biodiversity at Oxbow Eco-Center. On March 9, a Birder’s Excursion at Jones Hammock Preserve will be held. On the same day, a Daylight Savings Paddle at Petravice Family Preserve will take place.
