Police arrest homeless man on suspicion of murder after standoff outside tent

A 38-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of murder Friday afternoon after a standoff with SWAT officers and detectives who’d connected him to a deadly stabbing one day earlier, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The suspect, identified by police as Anthony Sean Blake, was taken into custody near 10th Street and Atlantic Avenue where he’d refused to come out of a tent, police said.

Police allege Blake is responsible for stabbing Marvin Allen Hadnot Jr., 35, to death around 4:40 a.m. Thursday near Long Beach Boulevard and Anaheim Street.

Police have not released details on any possible motive for the stabbing. They said the two men were possibly involved in an argument or fight before the stabbing.

Police did not say what led them to identify Blake as a suspect in Hadnot’s death, but officers located the 38-year-old just before 1 p.m. Friday at the intersection of two alleys: Frontenac Court and Nardo Way.

Officers called in an armored vehicle and shut down some nearby roadways when Blake refused to come out of a tent in the area, police said.
