Neighbors voice concern over potential large battery storage facility in Ozark

OZARK, Mo. – Neighbors in Christian County tell OzarksFirst they are concerned after a proposal was made to build a large battery storage facility near Ozark.

The plans from Black Mountain Energy Storage show it will go behind the substation off Old Prospect Road and Elk Valley.

Kendra Blankenship says she doesn’t feel like the community was given enough notice to speak their mind.

“We were pretty frustrated,” Blankenship said.

Blankenship’s property sits right next to the proposed battery storage facility.

“We can see the substation that they’re wanting to build it behind from our back porch actually,” Blankenship said.

The Christian County commissioners met with Planning and Zoning today for the first time to get the details on this proposed battery storage system.

Plans for the facility shared with us by Blankenship show that it will be a fenced-off facility with 56 large metal battery systems and multiple transformers.

“Everybody says that it’s in the spirit of progress,” Blankenship said. “I personally don’t feel like it’s progress. I feel like it’s more in the spirit of profit and people making the most that they can.”
