Walk through a stunning world of glass art at this Gem of Tampa Bay

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — This Gem of Tampa Bay allows visitors to step into a world of incredible glass art.

The Chihuly Collection at the Morean Arts Center opened in 2010 and features the work of legendary glass artist Dale Chihuly.

“As soon as you come in, it just has that wow factor,” Chief Curator at Morean Arts Center Amanda Cooper said.

Cooper explained how Chihuly was inspired by color and nature.

“His mother was a gardener so nature, florals, greenery is very important to him,” she said.

The art gallery has 18 installations, with intricate details, textures and designs.

Some masterpieces include the “Azul de Medianoche,” a blue chandelier that weighs about 1,000 pounds hung from the gallery ceiling.

“You don’t need a PhD in art history to appreciate it. It is for everyone.,” Cooper said.

The Chihuly Collection is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
