DeForest Buckner injury update: Colts defensive lineman injures ankle in game vs Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner was carted off the sidelines after suffering an injury to his right ankle in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Packers at Lambeau Field.

X-rays on Buckner’s ankle after the game were negative, a source told IndyStar, and the injury was being treated as a sprained ankle, although an MRI was needed to determine the extent of the damage.

Buckner, who was only playing on third downs already due to a back injury, was caught up in a pile at the end of a screen pass and stayed down in obvious pain.

At least five Indianapolis teammates huddled close around Buckner while he was being examined on the field, and Buckner had to be helped from the field, unable to put weight on his right leg.

Buckner, who has played through serious injuries in an Indianapolis uniform before was clearly in pain.

The veteran defensive tackle repeatedly put his head in his hands while he was being examined on the sideline, and although he tried to hobble into the locker room with trainers, the pain was too much, forcing Indianapolis to ask for a cart to take Buckner back to the locker room.
