Cooler Weather and Windy Conditions Expected for Reno Area, Parts of Northern Nevada

Windy conditions and much cooler temperatures are on the way for the Reno region, with the National Weather Service forecasting significant changes starting tonight. Gusts of 30-40 mph, reaching up to 60 mph in higher elevations, will persist into the evening before easing overnight.

A cold system will bring widespread rain and high-elevation snow to the area on Monday, with temperatures dropping 20-25 degrees below average. Highs will struggle to reach 50°F in the Sierra and 60°F in lower elevations. There’s also a chance for thunder and snow in the Sierra passes, with up to 2 inches possible at elevations above 6,000 feet.

A second storm is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing additional rain and snow to higher elevations. Warmer weather is anticipated by the weekend.
