Local horse rescue in need of volunteers

LINCOLN COUNTY, Wash. — A local horse sanctuary is in need of some volunteers to help care for their four-legged friends.

Vindicate Horse Rescue and Training in Reardan, Washington rescues kill pen and unwanted horses and trains them to give them a new lease on life.

“Just because it’s a rescue doesn’t mean that it’s not worthy of love and that it can’t be rehabilitated,” said Alyssa, Herriges-Dalsing, founder of Vindicated.

She said the organization is recruiting volunteers because taking care of the horses is a lot of work.

“With five horses, each horse eats up to 25 pounds of hay a day, so as you can imagine, that goes through their body and out the other end, and that has to be dealt with too, and at 25 pounds per horse, that’s quite the load we are trying to take care of,” said Herriges-Dalsing.

Volunteers at Vindicate can help with a variety of tasks such as cleaning the horse areas, general maintenance and other administrative needs.

“The less I have to do menial tasks, the more I can train horses and the more horses we can save,” said Herriges-Dalsing.
