As I continue my “State of Local Media” series, which will resume next week, I felt it was necessary to address a critical issue that has been affecting communities across the nation, including our own: swatting. This dangerous and reckless hoax involves making false reports of violent crimes to law enforcement in order to provoke an overwhelming response, typically involving heavily armed SWAT teams.
