Iconic 50s Retro Spot, Joe’s New York Diner Closed Over 14 Violations in Recent Inspection

If you’re a fan of retro diners and big portions, you’ve probably heard of Joe’s New York Diner in Tampa. Known for its 50s-style decor complete with a checkered floor and a jukebox, Joe’s has been a go-to spot for those craving classic comfort food. However, things took a turn recently when the diner was temporarily shut down after a state inspection revealed 14 violations.

Located at 11701 North Florida Avenue, Joe’s New York Diner has been a local favorite, boasting 4.2 stars on Google from over 4,000 reviews. Customers often praise the diner for its friendly service and hearty portions.

But on August 22, 2024, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation conducted an inspection that revealed a series of violations, forcing the diner to close temporarily.

So, what went wrong? Some of the basic violations included missing ceiling tiles, floor tiles that were in disrepair, and issues with the gaskets in the freezer. The inspector also found that a light was missing a proper shield, and unwashed mushrooms were being stored alongside ready-to-eat ham and tomatoes — a clear cross-contamination risk.
