Colombian street food moving into former Burrito Boarder on Pensacola Street

Empaisanas is giving the capital city another option for a taste of authentic Colombian food: It’s slated to open its first brick-and-mortar location in October.

“We’re bringing what Colombia represents to us, our culture. We’re just going all in on who we are, basically,” owner Nataly Munoz told the Tallahassee Democrat. “I’m representing my parents and where they were born and raised. That’s what makes us different.”

The family-operated restaurant will take over the site of the former Burrito Boarder location at 2065 W. Pensacola St. That Tex-Mex restaurant shuttered its doors after 12 years following the May 10 tornadoes that devastated parts of Tallahassee.

The new location sits less than five minutes from other locally owned Colombian eateries, El Rincon Latino Colombian Restaurant and Super Perros Colombian Restaurant, both on West Tennessee Street.

Operating since 2020, Empaisanas started off as a hot dog stand catering to smaller events and pop-ups in Munoz’s hometown of Miami.
