Emhoff Defends Harris From Sanders’ Comments

Additional Coverage:

Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman of the United States, criticized Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders for suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris lacks humility because she doesn’t have biological children.

Emhoff defended his wife, saying that all parents, regardless of how they became parents, experience the same sacrifices and joys of raising children. He dismissed Sanders’ comment as "unbelievable" and expressed appreciation for his family, including his ex-wife and their children.

Harris’s stepchildren also defended her, with her stepdaughter Kerstin Emhoff noting that Harris’s career working for families has kept her humble. Sanders had made her comments at an event with former President Donald Trump, who avoided commenting directly on whether Harris should be criticized for not having biological children.

Emhoff’s criticism follows similar remarks by Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, who referred to Harris and other women as "childless cat ladies" who want to make others miserable. The comment sparked backlash, with some embracing the term as a sign of support for Harris.
