Hochul pushing affordability initiatives as New York becomes an election battleground

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Gov. Kathy Hochul is talking affordability initiatives as New York becomes a battleground for control of Congress.

The governor dismissed any notion that her highlighting several older initiatives had anything to do with politics.

“All this is focused on not benefiting any political party, but demonstrating those leading government, including myself, understand that this is a top priority,” Hochul said, adding that people can see she has been focused on these issues for years.

Hochul was particularly proud of several multimillion-dollar initiatives to help parents with child care — and a beefed up $2.3 billion STAR program to give school tax relief to New York property owners. Sign up for the tax break here .

However, her words came the day after former President Donald Trump campaigned in one of seven crucial swing districts across Long Island and in the Hudson Valley.

Hochul has made no secret of her mission to flip or hold those seats and “make Hakeem Jeffries the next Speaker.”
