Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Developing Across Parts of Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina

Leftover Tropical Energy Continues to Produce Embedded Strong to Severe Weather in the Southeast

09/19/24 1:32pm ET

Good afternoon everyone. As expected, we are watching scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms develop across parts of south Florida; as well as parts of South Carolina and North Carolina.

Lingering tropical energy, combined with sunshine and warm, muggy air, are helping to fire up some more popcorn-like thunderstorms. Some of these storms have been on the strong to severe side, with damaging winds, small hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain.

While not everyone will see action today, those in areas of eastern South Carolina, central and eastern North Carolina, and central/south Florida, those who do could see some isolated severe weather. The primary risk remains locally strong winds, hail, flooding rains, and the risk of a few waterspouts for near-coastal sections.

We are expecting this action to conitnue into the late afternoon and evening hours, then slowly subside as the night goes on.
