Mobile closer to starting new affordable housing program

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) – This week, the Mobile City Council agreed to set aside $1 million to kickstart an affordable housing program. City leaders still have to iron out the details of the pilot program, but the goal is to build homes in neighborhoods that have seen better days. Councilman William Carroll showed NBC 15 News lots on State Street near Springhill Ave in his district the city already owns that are ready to be built on right now. He believes if the city builds affordable homes, other developers will follow and build more.
