HPD officers shoot armed man accused of waving gun at cars, police say

An armed suspect has been hospitalized after being shot by Houston police during a disturbance outside a home on Thursday night, according to officers.

The Houston Police Department told Eyewitness News that officers received a call about a man waving a handgun in traffic.

When officers arrived at the scene in the 2100 block of Cavalcade Street, a person of interest walked away from police while being told to stop.

Investigators said he then showcased a pistol and four officers fired shots, striking him once.

“We’re not sure if he fired (the gun). Our officers fired it upon him,” HPD Chief Noe Diaz said.

The suspect ran into a wooded area where he was later found with a pistol and taken to the hospital.

The department said no officers were injured, and an investigation is underway.

“There are a few reports before the callers that he had shot the weapon near someone’s home further down the street. But, we have not verified that yet,” Diaz said, adding that investigators aren’t sure if the suspect lives in the area.
