ODOT shares proposed options for Boone Bridge replacement

The Oregon Department of Transportation’s recent proposals for the project to replace the I-5 Boone Bridge include adding a southbound lane and two options for pedestrian facilities.

Two proposed options for changes to the bridge were recommended for further study by the transportation department at an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 18 — both proposing a southbound auxiliary lane that would span the distance between exit ramps on Wilsonville Road and Miley Road.

The options differ in potential pedestrian facilities. One proposes adding a bike and pedestrian path to the Boone Bridge, while the other involves a French Prairie Bike-Ped Bridge across the Willamette River.

Two other proposed options that did not add a southbound auxiliary lane were presented, but not recommended for further study. According to a chart comparing the tradeoffs between the four total proposals, adding an auxiliary lane would address traffic issues on the bridge.

ODOT Urban Mobility Deputy Director Della Mosier said that the project is still in early stages and this is the time for community input.
